National Apprenticeship Week 2024

National Apprenticeship Week 2024 is the perfect opportunity to shine a spotlight on the invaluable contributions of apprenticeships to our community, economy, and workforce, and also celebrate the 540 apprenticeship starts in Great Yarmouth last year.

This year's theme, "Skills for Life," encapsulates the essence of apprenticeships perfectly. Apprenticeships offer a pathway for individuals to learn, grow, and thrive in their chosen fields while simultaneously meeting the needs of employers for skilled workers. It's a win-win situation that fuels progress and prosperity for everyone involved.

In Great Yarmouth, we understand the importance of apprenticeships first hand. They provide that vital bridge between education and employment, allowing young people to gain practical experience, earn a wage, and work towards a nationally recognised qualification—all while contributing to the success of local businesses - from the skilled trades to digital technology, healthcare, and beyond, apprenticeships span a diverse range of industries, offering opportunities for local people with varied interests and talents.

But it's not just about the individual apprentice or the employer. Apprenticeships also benefit our community as a whole. By investing in apprenticeships, we're investing in the future of Great Yarmouth. We're cultivating a skilled workforce, driving innovation, and strengthening our local economy.

At Great Yarmouth Borough Council, we are focused on the skills and workforce for residents. In fact, right now, we are drafting up our own Skills and Workforce Strategy for the Borough, which is essential for building a resilient, adaptable, and dynamic workforce that can meet the demands of a rapidly changing labour market. By investing in skills development and workforce planning, we can create opportunities for individuals to thrive and drive sustainable economic growth in Great Yarmouth.

National Apprenticeship Week is a time to celebrate, inspire, and empower. Let's embrace local opportunities, champion apprenticeships, and pave the way for a brighter future in Great Yarmouth and beyond.
